Reminiscing is storytelling. Stories come to life when someone shares their story with you. As you get to know them better, you see what life was like through their eyes at a certain time and place.
Holding and interacting with objects and images from the past can help to engage elderly residents living in aged care. Through touch, sight and smell, they can recollect past life experiences and communicate those to a listener. This is where I come in, the listener. I enjoy doing reminiscence art and craft classes with the elderly as it's a way for me to engage with new people and help them feel at ease with me as they share their stories whilst we craft and create.
Speckled provides a free printable activities resource for Aged Care facilities to use with their residents. Each printable comes with a story and vintage themed craft to aide the stroll down memory lane.
