With Seniors week coming up this month, be sure to celebrate with your family at one or more of the many planned events happening in and around Sydney. Here are my top picks:
Grab your Granny and head to ARTplay for a fun filled morning. Explore the interactive Bella room, be part of a sing along, or pull up a cushion for show & tell. Grandparents, parents and kids under 5 welcome.
After viewing a screening of the 'Fabulous Fashionistas' documentary, participants will make their own funky and unique felt accessories and wearable jewellery. This film by Sue Bourne explores the art of ageing for six extraordinary women in their 70's, 80's and even 90's who each in their own special way defy expectations of the ageing process. They dress with style and panache that belies their advancing years.
One Hundred Faces of Wisdom
Portraits of seniors by seniors. Local amateur artists from Botany, Randwick, Waverley, Woollahra and the City of Sydney have been invited to submit portraits to the exhibition.
Led by an artist and a humble kitchen pasta machine, press and reveal beautiful multi layered prints of flowers and flora collected from the surrounding site.
Stitch in Time Knitting Project
Led by artist Debra Phillips, local knitting groups will knit up a storm to yarn bomb the trees in Civic park, North Sydney. The trees in their Autumn coloured crocheted coats invite visitors to see them for the duration of Seniors week.
Venue: Civic Park, 200 Miller Street , North Sydney
The Kings of Comedy
Catch a few classic silent films accompanied by live music at this matinee screening... perfect for an afternoon laugh!
